Ergonomic workstation chair
Office Ergonomic Evaluation

Many medical conditions, such as back and neck pain, headaches, tennis elbow, and carpal tunnel, can arise from faulty set-up of your workstation.  Repetitive motions at your workstation can cause microtrama to tissues, resulting in inflammation and pain. In order to eliminate such causes of pain, Kinetic Physical Therapy offers in-office ergonomic evaluations.

Ergonomics is the science of adapting your environment in order for you to perform a specific task. The goal of ergonomics is to maximize your efficiency and safety in your work environment. Your ergonomic assessment will include a comprehensive evaluation of your current workstation.
Recommendations will be given regarding the following:
  • desk
  • chair
  • computer
  • telephone (including mobile phone suggestions)
  • adaptive equipment (i.e., wrist braces, lumbar support, etc.)

Preventative Health Screening

Various musculoskeletal conditions and injuries can be prevented. Such injuries are often the result of muscle imbalances.  Detection and subsequent correction of these muscle imbalances can significantly reduce potential injury.

Regardless of your activity level, a thorough musculoskeletal evaluation is vital to enhance your performance and avoid injury. For example, the most sedentary individuals are prone to musculoskeletal pain due to prolonged sustained postures, which causes certain muscles to become shortened and/or weakened.
Preventive Health Screenings include:
  • postural assessment
  • muscle strength testing
  • flexibility assessment
  • modified ergonomic assessment
  • patient education
  • instruction in a personalized exercise program
To schedule a Preventative Health Screening with Lisa, call (225) 286-3000.

Vestibular Physical Therapy

Vestibular physical therapy is a specialized type of rehabilitation to treat vestibular disorders and their symptoms. These disorders can cause dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, vision issues, and posture problems. Vestibular PT aims to help the brain adapt to abnormal signals from the vestibular system, which is located in the inner ear and sends sensory signals to the brain.

Common conditions include the following:

  1. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV): Characterized by brief episodes of dizziness related to changes in head position.
  2. Vestibular Neuritis/Labyrinthitis: Inflammation of the vestibular nerve or inner ear, often causing severe vertigo.
  3. Meniere’s Disease: A chronic disorder that affects the inner ear, causing vertigo, tinnitus, hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness in the ear.
  4. Vestibular Migraine: Migraines that include vertigo, imbalance, and sensitivity to motion.
  5. Bilateral Vestibular Hypofunction: A condition where both vestibular systems are not functioning properly, leading to imbalance and visual instability.
  6. Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD): A chronic condition characterized by persistent dizziness and unsteadiness.
  7. Concussion and Head Trauma: Resulting in vestibular issues and imbalance.
  8. Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS): A sensation of continuous rocking or swaying, often after a cruise or prolonged motion.

Treatment typically involves specific exercises and therapy to improve balance, reduce dizziness, and enhance spatial orientation.
